Abstract
Background : Auditory hallucinations are a symptom of bipolar disorder and dementia, and can be distressing for individuals experiencing loss or preoccupation with a specific event. Untreated auditory hallucinations can lead to harm to oneself, others, and those around them. Objective : To determine the application of thought stopping therapy to reduce signs and symptoms of auditory hallucinations. Method : This research is a case study using a descriptive approach conducted on four respondents. The research design used a one-group pretest and posttest with the aim of identifying the effect of thought stopping therapy on reducing signs and symptoms of auditory hallucinations. Results : Respondent 1's symptoms of hallucinations before thought stopping therapy were 26 (severe) and decreased to 23 (severe) after implementation. Respondent 2's scores before therapy were 19 (moderate) and decreased to 16 (moderate) after implementation. Respondent 3's scores were 28 (severe) and 25 (severe) after implementation. Respondent 4's scores were 27 (severe) and 25 (severe) after implementation. Conclusion : The implementation of nursing care that had been provided for 3 days to the 4 respondents resulted in a decrease in signs and symptoms of auditory hallucinations. Suggestion : Thought stopping therapy and regularly taking medication prescribed by the doctor and being active in activities can reduce hallucinations in the foundation.
