Abstract

Background : Breastfeeding exclusively can be influenced by internal and external factors. Internal factors that arise problems from the mother alone one of them is the mother’s attitude, while the external factor is the role of family support. Infants who are not exclusively breastfed will have an impact on the risk of dying from diarrheal diseases by 3.94 times compared with exclusively breast-fed infants. Exclusive breastfeeding coverage in Indonesia 80%. Aim : To analyze relationship mother's attitude and family support with exclusive breastfeeding compliance in the District of Talang Betutu Palembang. Method: This type of research is quantitative. This study use of analytic survey with cross sectional approach to 70 respondents with total sampling. Data was collected by questionnaire analyzed with Fisher Exact Test. Results: Age average was 30 years old, the last education completed high school (35.7%), most of the work as housewife (87.1%), bad attitude (41.4%), moderate family support (48.6%), and compliance of exclusive breastfeeding (51.4%). There was a correlation between mother’s attitude ( p<0.001) and family support ( p= 0.006) with the exclusive breastfeeding compliance in the Village of Talang Betutu Palembang. It is expected that the mother will be more compliance in giving exclusive breastfeeding, and family to continue giving support to mother, and participation of health workers to provide motivation and health education about exclusive breastfeeding.
