Abstract

Background : Elderly people experience physiological changes, particularly in the cardiovaskular system, which can lead to increased blood pressure due to decreased cardiac output. If left untreated, increased blood pressure in the elderly can lead to risks such as stroke, heart attack, kidney problems, and even death. Efforts to control blood pressure can be achieved through pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies. One non-pharmacological therapy that can be carried out is a combination of murottal and slow deep breathing intervention therapy. Objective: To analyze the difference in blood pressure before and after administering a combination of Murottal and Slow Deep Breathing therapy to the elderly at the Harapan Kita Social Home in Palembang. Methods : This research is a quantitative study with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 35 elderly people. according to the inclusion criteria and selected using a total sampling technique. The instruments used were a sphygmomanometer and a stethoscope to measure blood pressure. The study was conducted at the Harapan Kita Social Home in Palembang.Using Univariate analysis and Wilcoxon test Result: The results of the study showed a decrease in blood pressure after the intervention, with a Wilcoxon Z test value = -2.419 and p-value = 0.016 (p<0.05), which indicates a difference in blood pressure before and after being given a combination of murottal and slow deep breathing therapy. Suggestion: Harapan Kita social shelter can make a combination of murottal and slow deep breathing one of the shelter's programs to keep the elderly's blood pressure stable.
