Abstract

Background: A hysterectomy is a procedure performed to remove the uterus, either partially or completely. This surgery often causes psychological responses such as anxiety. One non-pharmacological therapy that can be used to address anxiety is Benson relaxation. Objektive: Implementing Benson relaxation therapy to reduce preoperative anxiety in hysterectomy patients in the Adult Surgical Inpatient Ward of Charitas Hospital Palembang. Method: A case study describing nursing care for a preoperative hysterectomy patient experiencing preoperative anxiety. The measuring instrument used to assess anxiety was the Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS) questionnaire. Results: After administering Benson relaxation for 2 days with three sessions of treatment, it was found that the anxiety level of the first respondent decreased from moderate anxiety to mild anxiety. The second patient also showed a reduction in anxiety level from moderate to mild anxiety. Similarly, the third patient experienced a decrease in anxiety level from moderate anxiety to mild anxiety. Suggestion: Based on the findings of this study, it is recommended that respondents apply non-pharmacological interventions such as Benson relaxation to help manage preoperative anxiety, particularly in patients undergoing hysterectomy.
