The purposes of this study aim to find out the types of figurative language and to interpret the literal meaning behind figurative language use in the illustrated story book as this study’s variable. This study is conducted with qualitative-descriptive approach. The researcher collected public documents as the data resources. The data is analyzed with Krippendorf’s content analysis technique. The findings of this study are validated by three validators. The results of this study show there are six types of figurative language used in the said illustrated story book which are: Personification, Metaphor, Simile, Hyperbole, Contradiction, and Symbolic. The literal meaning of every sentence that is understood through interpretation process is variative due to diversity of the characteristics contained in figurative language types.
