Abstract
Background: Adolescence is an age group that is vulnerable to nutritional problems due to the biological, psychological, and social changes that occur. Adolescents' nutritional status can be determined by their daily nutrient intake, which is influenced by various factors, such as knowledge level, attitudes about balanced nutrition, and stress levels. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge, attitudes toward balanced nutrition, and stress levels with Body Mass Index (BMI) among adolescents. Methods: This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 40 adolescent respondents from SMA Nurul Amal Palembang, using a total sampling technique in grades 10, 11, and 12. Data were collected through questionnaires on knowledge, attitudes towards balanced nutrition, stress levels, and BMI measurements. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate methods using Kendall's tau-b test. Results: The results showed that most respondents were male 52.5% with an average age of 16.70 years. The majority of respondents had normal nutritional status 65%. Most respondents had a low level of balanced nutrition knowledge 80%, moderate attitudes toward balanced nutrition 50%, and moderate stress levels 85%. Bivariate analysis indicated no significant relationship between the level of knowledge and BMI p = 0.527, attitudes toward balanced nutrition and BMI p = 0.591, or stress levels and BMI p = 0.722. Conclusion: This study concludes that the level of knowledge, attitudes toward balanced nutrition, and stress levels are not significantly associated with BMI among adolescents. Recommendation: Further studies are recommended to involve larger sample sizes and to examine other factors influencing adolescent BMI, accompanied by institutional support for balanced nutrition education.
