Abstract
Background: Uncontrolled hypertension can lead to serious complications, potentially worsening organ damage. In addition to primary treatment, additional treatments are needed to maintain stable blood pressure. Additional treatments include warm water immersion therapy and salt water soaks to lower blood pressure. Objective: This study aims to determine the difference in effectiveness between soaking in warm water and soaking in salt water on blood pressure in hypertension sufferers. Method: This study used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental without a control group design using a two-group pretest-posttest design. The population of 50 respondents, using a purposive sampling technique, each group of 25 respondents, with inclusion criteria being hypertension sufferers at the Padang Selasa Health Center who were willing to be respondents and aged 19-59 years. The data collection process was carried out door to door, with instruments using a sphygmomanometer and a stethoscope to measure blood pressure. The analysis used was univariate analysis (frequency distribution test) and bivariate analysis (Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests). Results: Most of the hypertensive respondents were over 50 years old with a Standard Deviation value of 4.886 and an average of 24 respondents (96%) and 19 respondents (76%) were female. The results showed a difference in pre-test and post-test blood pressure between the warm water soak group (p=0.001). There was a difference in pre-test and post-test blood pressure between the salt water soak group (p=0.000). There was no difference in the effectiveness of warm water soaks versus salt water soaks on blood pressure in hypertensive patients (p=0.941). Suggestion: Health workers can use warm water and salt soak therapy as an educational medium to lower blood pressure.
