Abstract

Background Background:Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to insufficient insulin production or insulin resistance in the pancreatic β cells. Complications caused by DM include microangiopathy and macroangiopathy, which can impact the patient's quality of life. Self-care management (diet control, physical activity, healthcare utilization, and glucose management) can be improved by patients with DM. Objective:To determine the relationship between self-care management and quality of life in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Method:This study was quantitative, with a correlational design and a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 39 respondents from all DM patients in the Sukarami Community Health Center (Puskesmas Sukarami) working area. The sampling technique used was a total sampling of 35 respondents, adjusted to the instrument's inclusion and exclusion criteria. The DSMQ (DSMQ) was used to measure self-care management and the DQOL (DQOL) was used to measure quality of life. Data analysis used the Kendall's Tau-B test. Result:Age characteristics were 34-55 years, female gender (29 people) (82.9%), education: high school/vocational high school (18 people) (51.4%), occupation: unemployed (25 people) (71.4%), duration of illness: 1-5 years (17 people) (48.6%), comorbidities: present (19 people) (54.3%), self-care management was categorized as adequate (28 people) (80%), and quality of life was categorized as good (23 people) (65.7%). The Kendall's tau-b test showed a p-value of 0.004, τ = 0.484. Conclusion:There is a relationship between self-care management and quality of life. Suggestion:Patients should implement self-care management effectively to maintain a better quality of life. Key Word: Diabetes Mellitus,Quality of Life,Self Care Management
