Abstract

Background : The main sample for albumin examination is serum obtained from the blood centrifugation process in tubes without anticoagulants. Vacutainer tubes that can be used include plain vacutainer tubes and serum separator gel vacutainer tubes containing clot activator and gel separator. Objective : Analyzing albumin levels using a chemistry analyzer on plain vacutainer tubes and serum separator gel vacutainer tubes. Methods : This research is a quantitative study with an analytic observational research design with a cross sectional approach. The subjects in this study were 38 students who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Venous blood was collected in plain vacutainer tubes and serum separator gel vacutainer tubes as much as ± 2 ml which was then centrifuged to obtain serum which was examined using Biolabo Kenza 450 TX. Statistical tests using Paired T Test with 95% confidence level. Results : The average albumin level using plain vacutainer tubes was 4.67 g/dL. The average albumin level using a serum separator gel vacutainer tube is 4.91 g/dL. By using the Paired T Test test obtained p = 0.021 (p < 0.05). Conclusion : There are differences in albumin levels using plain vacutainer tubes and serum separator gel vacutainer tubes. Suggestion : Future research can use a larger number of samples with different subject variations and with different methods. SST vacutainer tubes are recommended as blood collection tubes used for albumin examination
