Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic group with characteristics of hyperglycemia that occurs due to abnormalities of insulin secretion, insulin work or both. In patients with diabetes mellitus, there is a biochemical interaction between serum glucose and purine metabolism, with increased uric acid excretion during hyperglycemia and glycosuria. Increased levels of uric acid can lead to kidney disorders and one of the complications of DM is renal failure. Cholesterol formed in the metabolic chain of fat and protein can accumulate and threaten blood vessels that can cause atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis will attack almost all blood vessels, especially peripheral vessel tissue, this is the basis of the emergence of various complications of DM. This study aims to determine the relationship of type 2 diabetes with age, sex, cholesterol and uric acid levels. The study was a correlative analytic study on 50 outpatient patients of Myria Hospital using Kendal Tau statistical test. The result of statistic test was found between DM type 2 and age p = 0,656, between DM type 2 and gender p = 0,552, between DM type 2 and cholesterol level p = 0,272, between DM type 2 and uric acid level p = 0,840. Based on statistical test, there was no significant relationship between type 2 diabetes mellitus with age, sex, cholesterol level and uric acid level.
