Abstract

Depression is a mood disorder or a type of emotion that accompanied the psychological components of worried, moody, sad, hopeless, and unhappy, depressed patients may be bad for the sufferer including the emergence of suicidal ideation. The aim of this research was to determine the factors associated with the level of depression of patients with chronic renal failure who undergo hemodialysis in RSI Siti Khadijah Palembang, namely family supports, age, educational level, and marital status. This research was a quantitative analytical research with cross sectional design. The participants of this study were 49 patients with renal failure undergoing hemodialysis at RSI Siti Khadijah Palembang which were chosen by using purposive sampling. The results showed there were 27 respondents (55,1 %)who were severely depressed. Characteristic of family supports most of the respondents experienced a good family supports as many as 27 respondents (55.1%). Age characteristic of respondents mostly adults and aged amounted to 37 respondents (75.5%). Characteristic of education level mostly showed educated respondents amounted to 26 respondents (53.1%). Marital status characteristic in majority of respondents were married numbered 38 respondents (77.6%). Data analysis that was used to determine the relationship of each variable by using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. The analysis showed there’s no significant relationship among the variables of family support, age, educational level, and marital status. As a suggestion, further research may add a variable that has not been investigated in this study to determine the factors that most influence on depression of patients with chronic renal failure.
