Abstract

Background : People with type 2 diabetes require long-term health management to prevent complications. These efforts include self-management and good dietary adherence, which requires optimal family support. Purpose : The relationship between family support and self-management and dietary compliance in type 2 diabetes mellitus sufferers is known. Methods : This research is quantitative with an analytical survey design and a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 58 people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), with a purposive sampling technique used. The instruments used in this study were a family support questionnaire, the Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire (DSMQ), and the Perceived Dietary Adherence Questionnaire (PDAQ). Data analysis used the Kendall-Tau test. Result : The results of the study showed that respondents with high family support were 49 (84.5%) respondents, good self-management was 30 (51.7%) respondents, and high dietary compliance was 38 (65.5%) respondents. The results of the bivariate test showed a relationship between family support and dietary compliance with a p-value of 0.000 and a relationship between self-management and dietary compliance with a p-value of 0.003. Conclusion : There is a relationship between the level of family support, self-management and dietary compliance of type 2 DM sufferers at the Palembang Social Health Center. Suggestion : It is hoped that high family support and good self-management can be implemented to improve respondents' dietary compliance.
