Abstract
Background: According to the WHO in 2013, postprandial blood glucose levels should use 75 grams of pure glucose dissolved in 250 ml of water. However, there are several laboratories when examining postprandial blood glucose levels not using 75 grams of pure glucose as recommended by the WHO. The study was conducted to find out the difference in postprandial blood glucose levels that received a pure glucose intake of 75 grams and received 75 grams of granulated sugar. Method: This type of research is a pre-experiment with One Group Pretest and Posttest. The subjects in this study were FIKES UKMC students of 30 who met inclusion and exclusion criteria. Subjects were asked to fast 10 – 12 hours, then take blood for fasting blood glucose levels. Then the subjects were divided into two groups, namely group 1 receiving pure glucose intake and group 2 receiving granulated sugar intake. Furthermore the subject was asked to resuscitation for 2 hours, then taken blood for pap blood glucose level examination. The data was analyzed using the Independent T Test with a 95% confidence level. Result: Average postprandial blood glucose levels given a pure glucose intake of 75 grams amounted to 107.7 mg/dL while the average postprandial blood glucose level given granulated sugar intake was 90.7 mg/dL. Results tested with the Independent T Test showed there was a significant difference between postprandial blood glucose levels receiving 75 grams of pure glucose and receiving 75 grams of granulated sugar, p =0.016. Conclusion : At the examination of postprandial blood glucose levels that received a pure glucose intake of 75 grams and who received 75 grams of granulated sugar there was a difference meaning sig p = 0.016 (<0.05).
