Abstract

Emotional intelligence is the ability of a person to recognize and control his own emotions, know the emotions of others, and be able to establish social interactions well, authoritarian parenting is an obstacle to emotional intelligence. This study aims to determine the relationship between authoritarian parenting parents with emotional intelligence in junior high school students. This study used a quantitative approach with a sample of 61 respondents obtained by incidental sampling approach. To measure the relationship between authoritarian parenting and emotional intelligence, a questionnaire was used through the Google form media which was used as a data collection tool. Hypothesis testing is done by Rank Spearman test. The results showed that there was a relationship between authoritarian parenting parents and emotional intelligence in junior high school students with a coefficient value of -0.413 which is a negative correlation direction with a significance of 0.001 <0.05 which indicates a relationship between variables.
