Abstract

Differences in Knowledge and Attitudes of TB Patients Before and After Tuberculosis Prevention Education at Puskesmas Palembang Campus THESIS NURSING AND NERS STUDY PROGRAM FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCE MUSI CHARITAS CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY Background: Prevention of TB transmission can be influenced by the knowledge and attitudes of TB patients, where a lack of knowledge can lead to bad attitudes in doing prevention. Education is an action that is planned to increase knowledge so that behavior changes occur in preventing tuberculosis transmission. Because, if TB prevention is not carried out, it will cause many people to become infected with TB until there is airway obstruction and death. Objective: To find out the difference before and after the education was given about the prevention of tuberculosis transmission to the knowledge and attitudes of TB patients. Methods: This study uses a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design, one group pre-test-post-test design. The population in this study were 30 respondents using the Total Sampling technique. Using the Wilcoxson test. Results: This study found the characteristics of respondents with the majority of early adulthood as many as 17 (56.7%), the majority of high school education 13 (43.3%) and the majority being male as many as 18 (60%). The results of knowledge and attitudes before being given education, obtained knowledge of 22 (73.3%), Enough 3 (10%), Good 5 (16.7%) and attitude results obtained as much as 1 (3.3%), Good attitude 25 (83.3%) and very good attitude as much as 4 (13.3%). While the results of knowledge and attitudes after education obtained results of Sufficient knowledge as much as 2 (6.7%), Good Knowledge as many as 28 (93.3%) respondents and the results of attitudes increased Very Good by 30 (100%). The p-value of 0.001 was obtained, which means that there are differences in the knowledge and attitudes of TB patients before and after education on the prevention of tuberculosis transmission. Suggestion: It is hoped that it will become the basis for the development of tuberculosis nurses in conducting education on the prevention of tuberculosis transmission to TB patients.
