Abstract

Background: Adolescence is a period where there is a transition from childhood to adulthood that will experience changes and experience a moral decline that has hit some of our youth, who is better known as juvenile delinquency. One of the acquaintances of teenagers is smoking. Smoking is an activity to inhale tobacco smoke that is burned into the body and exhale back out. There are many factors for students to smoke, one of which affects the habit is knowledge. Health education is an effort of persuasion or learning to the community so that they are willing to take action to maintain and improve health. Objective: This study aims to determine the difference before and after being given health education to students about the dangers of smoking before and after being given health education Methods: quantitative research with Quasi Experimental design with One Group Pretest-Posttest Design, total sampling technique, the population in this study amounted to 60 respondents and the sample in this study was 60 respondents, using the Wilcoxon matched pairs test statistical test. Results: the results of the univariate study of respondents showed that most of the respondents' ages were more than middle teens, 46 (76%), sex was 31 (51.7%), before being given health education about the dangers of smoking, the majority of respondents had knowledge of enough as much as 33 (55%). The results of the bivariate study showed that there was a difference before and after being given health education about the dangers of smoking, namely p-velue 0.00> 0.005 where there was a difference in the level of knowledge before and after being given health education. Suggestion: Schools are expected to provide knowledge about the impact of smoking as early as possible, and students are expected not to fall into harmful activities.
