Abstract
Background: In diabetes mellitus patients blood glucose levels increase, resulting in increased blood glucose levels triglycerides that lead to sclerosis. Laboratory tests in patients with a history of diabetes mellitus are HbA1c as the gold standard and lipid profile (triglycerides) as a risk factor. Fasting patient preparation are factors that can affect the results of the examination, therefore preparation for a 12-hour fasting patient needs to be carried out. This study aims to determine the relationship between triglyceride levels and HbA1c levels in patients with diabetes mellitus with the preparation of patients fasting 12 hours. Methods: This study was a descriptive analytic study with an analytical cross sectional design. Samples were taken by total sampling that met the inclusion criteria as many as 34 samples from outpatient polyclinics with a history of Diabetes Mellitus. Sampling was carried out after the research subjects fasted for 12 hours, triglyceride examination was carried out using the Enzymatic Colorimetric (GPO-PAP) method and HbA1c examination using the Turbidimetric Inhibition Immunoassay method. The hypothesis test used is the Spearman Correlation Test. Results: The average blood triglyceride level is 140.40 mg/dL and the average HbA1c level is 7.5% in patients with Diabetes Mellitus fasting 12 hours. The results of the Spearman Correlation Test show that there is no relationship between triglyceride levels and HbA1c levels in patients with Diabetes Mellitus fasting 12 hours with a p value = 0.629 (p>0.05. Conclusion: There is no relationship between triglyceride levels and HbA1c levels in patients with Diabetes Mellitus with 95% confidence level obtained a sig (2 tailed) value of 0.629 (> 0.05)
