Abstract

The current trend of foreign language is translation. Translation is one of important skill to communicate to other people around the world. Good translation means good at grammar as well. By knowing good grammar, learners can avoid errors in their translation, both in wrtitten and oral translation as well. Learners think it is easy to translate word from source language (SL) to target language (TL). In fact, some learners translating SL to TL word by word without paying attention in its grammatical structure. The study aimed kinds of grammatical errors and the sources influencing grammatical errors in Indonesian-English translation. Desciriptive qualitative was used in this study. The sample was English Languange Education Students in second semester. Purposive sampling was used to collect the data. It used to show the samples’ ability about grammar compared with higher semester. Translational test and questionnaires were the instuments. The result showed three types of error: omission, misformation, and misordering and three sources of errors: morphological aspects, lexical aspects, and syntactic aspects.
