Abstract

Considering the needs of preparing students toward the issue of Asian Economic Community, it is necessary for each educational places to produce qualified and competitive human resources. Language is believed as a means of communication among this upcoming international trade system. In this technological era, language laboratory has become thicker on the ground. It is also installed in our university where English is taught in ESP courses. Through this study, it is strongly believed that language laboratory would provide beneficial impact to empower students’ listening comprehension skill and speaking performance. Fifty university students of non-English major were selected and distributed equally to both control and experimental group. All students in the experimental group were taught in the language laboratory but those in the control group studied in the classroom. The data were collected by assessing students’ listening and speaking achievement as well as administering questionnaire. The results were obtained through the statistical analysis which is aimed to find out the significant influence of language laboratory toward students’ listening and speaking achievement. The implications of the findings of this study are discussed.
