Abstract
This study deals with politeness in language based on gender, which is usually used by men and women when interacting at school. The purpose of this study is to describe language politeness in interactions between students based on gender at SDN 166 Palembang. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The sampling technique was carried out by purposive sampling. The subjects in this study were students at SDN 166 Palembang. Data collection techniques are carried out using observation (observation), recording, and recording (optional). Data analysis techniques are done by triangulation. The results showed that male research subjects used eight politeness indicators that had been applied, namely indirect speech, use of pleasantries, paying attention to the preferences, desires, and needs of the interlocutor, using greeting words, avoiding disagreement, giving and asking for reasons, exhibiting a pessimistic attitude, and minimizing coercion and nonverbal language. The female research subjects only used seven of the politeness indicators that had been applied, namely indirect speech, use of pleasantries, paying attention to the preferences, desires, and needs of the interlocutor, using greeting words, giving and asking for reasons, showing a pessimistic attitude, and minimizing coercion and nonverbal language.
