Abstract
ABSTRACT In this digital era, the speaking mastery becomes one of future career requirements. Through speaking, people can convey their feelings, thoughts, or ideas to other people. The success of speaking can be influenced by psychological aspects, in this case, anxiety. Anxiety becomes one of difficulties to increase speaking achievement. This study was intended to know the correlation between speaking anxiety and speaking achievement in one of private vocational high school in Palembang. This research used correlational research design with quantitative approach. Participants were selected by convenience sampling technique with one hundred participants. To obtain the data of students’ speaking anxiety and PRPSA questionnaire were administered. Furthermore, students’ speaking achievement was also assessed and analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment. As the results, fifty five percent students belonged to high level of anxiety and eighty one percent students belonged to intermediate level of speaking. In addition, the correlational test results revealed that there was significant correlation between speaking anxiety and speaking achievement.
