Abstract
Songket is a traditional woven cloth made using gold and silver threads. Songket cloth itself is a typical cloth from the city of Palembang. The process of making songket itself from winding the thread to finish it takes 1 to 3 months depending on the motif or pattern, the more complicated the pattern, the longer the manufacturing process. Manufacturers or craftsmen take a long time just to roll the threads and can prolong the processing time besides the thread rollers that are currently in use cannot be stopped because the tool models are separated by parts and must be stopped manually. It is also a factor that prolongs the thread winding process. Because of these problems, we are interested in helping songket makers by minimizing the time of manufacture without losing the traditional elements. The method used in this research is Appropriate Technology. This research includes planning tools, preparing tools and materials, checking sizes, cutting materials, measuring materials, assembling, testing machines, painting. The data obtained were 30 samples. The results of this study obtained are the design of this yarn winder can be stopped simultaneously and the swivel steering and spinning reels are connected, and the test results obtained an average time of 151.91 minutes or 2 hours 31 minutes.
