Abstract
Writing is one of the most important skills in learning English. Vocabulary mastery is also an important component in learning English. Writing is related with vocabulary. If the learner understands about vocabulary, they will be able to make a better writing. However, the students’ vocabulary mastery and writing achievement at the research field are low. Therefore, this study was intented to exploring the correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing achievement of eleventh grade students in a Vocational High School in Palembang. The participants of this research were computer network engineering and marketing management business major students. The writer applied a correlational design in this research. The population of this study were 106 students, and the sample were 72 students. The writer used convenience sampling to choose the participants. Writing and vocabulary tests were used as the instruments to collect the data of this research. The data were analyzed by using Pearson Product moment. The result revealed that there was a correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and writing achievement. Key words : Vocabulary, writing, and correlation
