Abstract
Speaking skill is a productive skill in language learning. This skill involves communicative performance and other important elements, such as pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, etc. The aim of this study was to find out the correlation between students’ reading habit and speaking skill of tenth grade students in a senior high school Palembang. This study implemented the correlational explanatory design. The participants of this study were fifty-nine students selected by convenience sampling technique. The instruments of this study were the reading habit questionnaire and the speaking skill test. The reading habit questionnaire was used to find out the students reading habit level and the speaking skill test was used to know the students speaking skill. In this study, the Pearson Product-Moment was used to analyze the correlational data. This study showed that the Pearson correlation value was 0.232 with sig. value 0.077. As the result, there was no significant correlation between reading habit and speaking skill. However, through reading as a habit, students can build the vocabularies as the basic elements to improve the speaking skill. Keywords: Speaking Skill, Reading Habit, Correlation
