Abstract

Backround : An elderly person is someone who has reached the age of 60 years and above.At that age the elderly will experience several problems that include abnormal physical, mental, and psychosocial changes, in the concept of self-focusing on the individual himself to organize himself from the environment so that he can stay alive, and enjoy his elderly life.Self-care is self-care to maintain health and hygiene, both physically and mentally. Objective : known description of the concept of self and self-care elderly in the Elderly Social Home our hope Palembang. Methods : This research uses quantitative research, using descriptive survey method using cross sectional approach.Sampling total sampling with a population of 61 respondents and a sample of 47 respondents taking into account the criteria of inclusion and exclusion. Results : obtained results from the number of respondents 47 in the get that the majority of elderly people late >65 years there are 32 respondents (68.1%), the majority of female gender there are 27 respondents (57.4%), the concept of a positive majority self there are 28 respondents 59.6%, self-care majority is good there are 27 elderly 57.4%. Suggestion : Based on the results of the study, it is recommended that the elderly be more independent, and it is recommended for the orphanage to make spiritual activities, and do morning exercises every Friday. keywords: Elderly, Self Concept, Self Care.
