Abstract

Recurrence in people with mental disorders (ODGJ) is caused due to lack of knowledge and family attitudes in caring for patients. Health education can provide knowledge to the family, so family knowledge will increase so as to reduce the level of recurrence in patients. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of mental health education on family knowledge and attitudes in preventing relapse in people with mental disorders (ODGJ). This study used a pre-experiment method with one group prepost test design and the sample consisted of 98 respondents. Statistical test results obtained the average value of family knowledge in preventing recurrence in people with mental disorders before mental health education was 8.95 and the average value of family knowledge after mental health education was 9.19. Whereas family attitudes in preventing recurrence in people with mental disorders prior to mental health education were 43.74 and family attitudes after mental health education were 49.17. Statistical test results using Wilcoxon signed ranks test obtained p value of knowledge is 0.030 and p value of attitude is 0.0001 which means there is an influence before and after mental health education is given to the family. So it is hoped that in addition to providing health education, the addition of leaflets and posters on mental disorders can increase knowledge so that it will change the attitude of families in caring for people with mental disorders so that relapse can be prevented.
