Abstract
Background: KB combination pills increase the risk of hypertension, stroke, myocardial infarction and peripheral arterial disease. Combination pill contraceptives activate the renin angiotensin system, whose increase can affect the increase in blood pressure. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with the incidence of hypertension in acceptors of KB combination pills. Method: This study was a cross-sectional study in a population of KB combination pill acceptors who fulfilled the inclusion criteria taken by consecutive sampling technique in the working area of one of the Padang Public Health Centers from June to August 2017. Data were analyzed by Chi-Square test. Results: The results of this study indicate a significant relationship between age and the incidence of hypertension in combination pill contraceptive acceptors (p = 0.003). The results of this study indicate that there is a significant relationship between the duration of contraceptive use and the incidence of hypertension in combination pill contraceptive acceptors (p = 0.001). The results of this study also showed a significant relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and the incidence of hypertension in combination pill contraceptive acceptors (p = 0.034). Suggestion: Suggestions are needed for blood pressure monitoring in KB acceptors of combination pills with high blood pressure and stopping use of combined pill contraception in women with hypertension.
