Abstract

Introduction: The number of infertile couples in the world increases 2 million every year. 35-40% are men. 245 infertile couples in Palembang, male factor 48.4%. One of the causes of infertility is hormonal disorders such as decreased testosterone. Decreased testosterone leads to impaired spermatogenesis process. Java Cabe (Piper retrofractum Vahl.) Is a native plant in Indonesia that contains Piperin, essential oils, water, and alkaloid materials that have the effect of increasing metabolism in the body. Objective: to know the effect of Java Cabe extract (Piper retrofractum Vahl.) On testicular histology and spermatogenesis process. Methods: The experimental type was true experiment using subjects of male mice (Mus musculus) and applied Completely Randomized Design (RAL) consisting of 5 dosage groups in 10mg / BB: 0 mg, 1.05mg, 2.1mg, 4.2mg, and 8.4mg with each 5 mice daily given a Java Cabe (Piper retrofractum Vahl.) for 36 days. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and Duncan with significance level of p <0,05. Results: that the Piper retrofractum Vahl with a dose of 2.1mg / 10 gr BB increased the weight of the testis, diameter of the seminferus tubule, the thickness of the germinal seminiferous tubular epithelium, the core Leydig diameter, the spermatogenesis index, the Leydig cell count, Sertoli cells, and the associate cell significant.
