Mistakes in the decision-making process regarding the selection of a major in college can have negative consequences for students, such as reduced motivation to study, increased educational costs, and a longer time to complete their studies. According to research conducted by the Indonesia Career Center Network (ICCN), many students still feel that the alignment between the major they chose and their interests, abilities, and potential is not yet optimal. Therefore, this study aims to develop a web-based application as a Decision Support System (DSS) by applying the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method to provide recommendations on program selection to prospective students at the Musi Charitas Catholic University of Palembang (UKMC). The criteria used in the calculation process include academic grades—particularly in Mathematics, English, and Indonesian—as well as students’ initial majors, interests, and economic status. The data used consists of information on prospective students who applied between January and August 2024. This system was developed using the PHP programming language with a MySQL database. The SAW method’s calculations yield the highest preference score as a recommendation for a major that aligns with the prospective student’s profile. The application of the SAW method produces objective, systematic, and relevant decisions, thereby effectively supporting the major selection process.
