Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is characterized by elevated blood glucose levels that require management through both pharmacological and non-pharmacological means. Massage therapy is a non-pharmacological intervention that can help lower blood glucose levels by improving circulation and inducing relaxation in patients. Objective: To analyze nursing care for patients with diabetes mellitus involving the application of foot massage interventions on blood glucose levels. Methods: In the implementation of evidence-based practice, the research design employed is quantitative research utilizing a case study approach. Results: The implementation results showed that foot massage over a three-day period led to a decrease in blood glucose levels across the three respondents. Pre- and post-intervention random blood glucose (RBG) readings were as follows: for Respondent 1, 147 mg/dL and 160 mg/dL; for Respondent 2, 205 mg/dL and 198 mg/dL; and for Respondent 3, 237 mg/dL and 219 mg/dL. On the second day, the readings were: Respondent 1, 182 mg/dL and 169 mg/dL; Respondent 2, 237 mg/dL and 259 mg/dL; and Respondent 3, 246 mg/dL and 235 mg/dL. On the third day, the readings were: Respondent 1, 199 mg/dL and 214 mg/dL; Respondent 2, 247 mg/dL and 220 mg/dL; and Respondent 3, 329 mg/dL and 278 mg/dL. Suggetion: Nurses are expected to implement foot massage therapy as a safe and easy-to-administer complementary nursing intervention to help control blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus.
