Abstract
Background:Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease caused by insulin resistance, leading to elevated blood sugar levels. In 2021, the number of DM sufferers worldwide reached 517 million, with 19.5 million in Indonesia, 433.461 cases in South Sumatra in 2022 adn 112 million in Palembang. If uncontrolled, DM can lead to acute and chronic complications. One non pharmacological therapy that can help control blood sugar levels is progressive muscel relaxation (PMR). This technique involves tensing and realxing spesific muscles, allowing the hormone cortisol to work to thelp stabilize blood sugar levels. Objective:To conduct a nursing analysis of blood sugar reduction in patients with Tyipe 2 DM using progressive muscle relaxation. Method: A case study of patient diagnosed with Type 2 DM in the inpatient ward of Bhayangkara Mohamad Hasan Hospital. Progressive muscle relaxation was apllied once for three consecutive days, with intervals of 15-20 minutes. Blood glucose levels were measured using a glucometer twice before and after the intervention. Result:Blood sugar levels decreased before and after the intervention for 3 days. Mrs.Sy’s blood sugar levels decreased from 230 mg/dl to 100 mg/dl, Mrs.Sk’s b;ood sugar levels decreased from 176 mg/dl to 118 mg/dl and Mrs.C’s blood sugar decreased from 215 mg/dl tp 126 mg/dl. Conclusion: The application of progressive muscle relaxation has an effect on reducing blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 DM. Suggestion: Patients should be able to independetly apply progressive msucel relaxation as a non-pharmacological therapy. Key Word: Diabetes Mellitus,Blood sugar levels,Progressive muscle relaxation.
