Abstract

This research was motivated by the need to develop the MONIKAU learning media game for third-grade students at SD Xaverius 1 Palembang. Based on the results of observations, interviews, and a needs analysis questionnaire, the learning process had utilized various learning resources; however, there was still a need for instructional media capable of increasing students' active engagement and providing more concrete learning experiences in accordance with the characteristics of elementary school students. The needs analysis revealed that 39.13% of the students still experienced difficulties in understanding the topics of needs, wants, and money. This study aimed to produce a Monopoly-based learning media on the topics of needs, wants, and money that meets the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness for third-grade students at SD Xaverius 1 Palembang. The study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4-D development model, consisting of Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate stages. The research subjects included six third-grade students from Class III-C in the limited trial and twenty-three third-grade students from Class III-B in the field trial. The results indicated that the media achieved a validity score of 96.7% from the media expert, 92% from the material expert, and 99% from the language expert, all categorized as highly valid. The practicality level reached 96.29% in the limited trial, 91% in the field trial, and 92.5% based on the teacher's response, all categorized as highly practical. The effectiveness of the media was demonstrated by a classical learning mastery rate of 100%. Based on these findings, the MONIKAU learning media was declared valid, practical, and effective, making it suitable for use in teaching Integrated Science and Social Studies (IPAS) for third-grade elementary school students.
