Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between online gaming intensity and emotion regulation among junior high school students at SMP X in Palembang. The research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The study population consisted of 121 students, with 71 participants selected through purposive sampling based on the criteria of being 11–14 years old, actively playing online games for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour per day, and willing to participate in the study. Data were collected using validated and reliable scales measuring online gaming intensity and emotion regulation and were analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation test. The findings revealed a significant relationship between online gaming intensity and emotion regulation, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.501 and a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). These results indicate a moderate relationship between the two variables. The study concludes that online gaming intensity is significantly associated with emotion regulation among adolescents, highlighting the importance of balanced gaming habits and the development of effective emotion regulation skills to support healthy psychological development.
