Abstract
Introduction: Preoperative anxiety in children is a common psychological problem caused by uncertainty about surgery, the unfamiliar hospital environment, and fear of pain and medical procedures. This condition can trigger physiological responses such as increased heart rate, restlessness, crying, and refusal of medical treatment. If left untreated, anxiety can interfere with a child's care and recovery. One non-pharmacological intervention that can be used to reduce anxiety is play therapy, specifically coloring cloth bags, which provides a distraction effect and helps children express their feelings. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of cloth bag coloring play therapy in reducing anxiety levels in pre-operative children in the pediatric ward. Methods: This study employed a descriptive case study design using a nursing process approach involving three respondents. The intervention consisted of a coloring play therapy session using cloth bags, lasting 20–30 minutes. Results: The research results indicate that coloring cloth bags was effective in reducing anxiety levels: for Child I, from a scale of 4 to 2; for Child E, from 3 to 2; and for Child A, from 4 to 2 Suggestion: Cloth bag coloring play therapy can be used to reduce the anxiety levels of preschool children who are going to undergo surgery.
