Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between locus of control and consumptive lifestyle with intention to buy among university students. This research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The participants consisted of 100 active university students selected using accidental sampling technique. Data were collected using Likert-scale instruments measuring locus of control, consumptive lifestyle, and intention to buy. Data analysis was conducted using Pearson correlation and multiple regression analysis. The results showed a significant relationship between locus of control and intention to buy (r = 0.643; p < 0.05). In addition, consumptive lifestyle was significantly associated with intention to buy (p < 0.05) with a negative relationship direction. Furthermore, locus of control and consumptive lifestyle simultaneously had a significant relationship with intention to buy (F = 56.808; p < 0.05) with a coefficient of determination of R² = 0.539, indicating that both variables contributed 53.9% to students’ intention to buy. Higher locus of control was associated with higher intention to buy, whereas higher consumptive lifestyle in this study was associated with lower intention to buy.
