Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a chronic disease with a high prevalence in the community and is one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease. The management of hypertension not only focuses on pharmacological therapy but also requires non-pharmacological interventions as complementary therapy. One evidence-based nursing intervention (Evidence-Based Practice/EBP) that can be applied is acupressure therapy, which plays a role in promoting relaxation and helping to lower blood pressure. Purpose: This implementation or intervention aims to determine the effectiveness of applying acupressure therapy in lowering blood pressure in patients with hypertension. Methods: This case study uses a descriptive analytical method with a nursing process approach conducted on 3 patients, aiming to determine whether acupressure therapy has an effect on lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients in Lebung Jaya RT 35, Talang Betutu Subdistrict, Palembang, carried out over 3 consecutive days with a duration of 5-10 minutes per session. Results: The implementation results show that all respondents experienced a decrease in blood pressure after undergoing acupressure therapy. Systolic blood pressure decreased by 10–20 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure by 2–7 mmHg. In addition, respondents showed a more relaxed condition after the intervention, which contributed to the gradual decrease in blood pressure during the implementation period. Conclusion: It is expected that acupressure therapy for hypertension patients is recommended to be applied in the nursing care of hypertensive patients as a complementary therapy to medical treatment. Further research is expected to involve a larger number of respondents and a longer intervention duration.
