Abstract

Introduction: The IV insertion process can cause pain, which can be distressing for children. Pain is an uncomfortable sensation experienced by each individual. Furthermore, changes in vital signs, such as increased pulse rate, blood pressure, and respiration, can be an unpleasant experience for children. Non-pharmacological therapy is an intervention to reduce pain perception in children and increase comfort during medical procedures. One non-pharmacological technique includes audio-visual distraction using a smart book. Smart book is a fun and interactive play therapy that can support cognitive, fine motor, and sensory aspects in children and to divert children's attention from pain by displaying more fun and interesting images and musical sounds. Objective : It is known that the effectiveness of audio visual distraction in preschool using smart books on reducing the pain scale after IV installation. Methods:. This research used a descriptive case study with a nursing process approach for three respondents. The intervention provided was audio-visual distraction therapy using a smart book for approximately 10 minutes. Results: The pain scale for An. A decreased from a 7 to a 4, An. G decreased from a 10 to a 4, and An. R decreased from a 7 to a 4. The results of the study showed that smart book audio-visual distraction therapy was effective in reducing pain levels in preschool children after IV infusion. Suggestion: Smart book audio visual distraction therapy can be used to reduce pain scale in preschool children after IV insertion.
