Abstract
This study aims to describe the writing abilities of sixth-grade students in elementary school Xaverius 9 Palembang. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach, with 89 sixth-grade students from classes VIA, VIB, and VIC as subjects. Data collection techniques included a pantun writing test, interviews with teachers and the principal, and documentation of student work. Data were analyzed based on rhyme, line structure, number of syllables, and the difference between the rhyme scheme and the content of the pantun. The data were then validated through researcher triangulation to ensure the validity of the research results. The results showed that the majority of students were able to write pantun with the correct rhyme scheme, most mastered the four-line structure, and were able to differentiate between the rhyme scheme and the content of the pantun. However, errors still occurred, including 40.41% errors in rhyme, 5.47% errors in line structure, 35.61% errors in syllable count, and 18.49% errors in differentiating between sampiran and isi (content). These findings indicate that although most students have good pantun writing skills, strengthening the rhyme aspect and understanding the function of pantun is still needed. This research is expected to provide evaluation material for teachers in designing more effective and enjoyable learning strategies.
