Abstract

Hypertension remains a major risk factor for mortality in Indonesia, with a prevalence rate of 40.3%, along with an increasing number of cases at Puskesmas Sosial Palembang. A preliminary study showed that most patients have low self-efficacy and poor medication adherence, which negatively affect their quality of life and increase the risk of serious complications.To determine the relationship between self-efficacy and medication adherence with quality of life among hypertensive patients in the working area of Puskesmas Sosial Palembang.This study employed an analytic survey with a cross-sectional design. A total of 69 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. The instruments used were the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 (MMAS-8), and WHOQOL-BREF. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Kendall tau-b test.The Kendall tau-b test showed a significant relationship between self-efficacy and quality of life (p = 0.001 < 0.05), and between medication adherence and quality of life (p = 0.001 < 0.05) among hypertensive patients in the working area of Puskesmas Sosial Palembang.the relationship between self efficacy and medication adherence with quality of life in patients with hypertension.Puskesmas should strengthen education, counseling, and routine monitoring of blood pressure and medication adherence to improve patients’ quality of life.
