Abstract

Background : All intraoperative patients receive anesthesia, one type of which is spinal anesthesia. Patients undergoing spinal anesthesia are fully conscious and witness the surgical procedure, which can significantly increase anxiety. Untreated anxiety can lead to increased blood pressure, pulse, and breathing, muscle tension, an increased gag reflex, and, in the worst case, shock. One therapy for managing intraoperative anxiety is Beethoven's classical music therapy. Objective : The influence of Beethoven's classical music therapy on anxiety in intraoperative patients with spinal anesthesia was known. Methods : The quantitative research design used a pre-experiment, one-group pre-post-test design. The population of this study was intra-operative patients with spinal anesthesia. The sampling technique used purposive sampling, resulting in 66 respondents. The research instrument used the Anxiety Analog Scale (AAS), and the intervention used Beethoven's classical music. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon rank sum test. Result : The research results were tested using the Wilcoxon rank test, obtaining a p-value of .000, which means there is a significant influence. Conclusion : There is a significant effect of Beethoven classical music therapy on intraoperative anxiety with spinal anesthesia at Siti Fatimah Regional Hospital, South Sumatra Province in 2025. (p.value = 0.000). Suggestion : Nurse’s can address intraoperative anxiety with spinal anesthesia using Beethoven's classical music therapy
