Abstract

Background: Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are a common condition in pregnant women due to slow urine flow and can lead to complications such as premature labor, fetal growth retardation, and preeclampsia. The prevalence of UTIs in pregnant women reaches 95 per 100,000 cases. Previous research has shown that pregnant women's knowledge of UTIs is still relatively low, at around 64.7%. This situation indicates the need to improve health education for pregnant women as an effort to prevent UTIs during pregnancy. Objective: To determine the difference in knowledge levels before and after education using a booklet for pregnant women. Methods: This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design using a one-group pre-test and post-test design. A sample of 58 respondents was selected using purposive sampling technique, with inclusion criteria for pregnant women in the first to third trimesters. Data collection was conducted using a 10-question knowledge questionnaire on UTIs that had been validated. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test. Result: The average age of respondents was 28 years, 24 respondents were in their second trimester, 40 respondents had a history of multigravida pregnancy, 21 respondents had a history of multiparous childbirth, and 35 respondents had a high school education. The Z-value was -5.634 with a p-value of 0.001 (<0.05). Conclusion: There was a significant difference between the level of knowledge before and after education using the booklet on urinary tract infections. Suggestion: Pregnant women can continue to improve their knowledge about UTI prevention through booklet education, actively seek out information related to pregnancy health, and consult with health professionals to maintain maternal and fetal health during pregnancy.
