Abstract
Obesity is a global health problem with increasing prevalence, WHO reported that in 2022 there were 2.5 billion adults with obesity worldwide, in Indonesia, especially in the South Sumatra region, there were around 497,000 people and in the city of Palembang reached around 96,001 people. This condition of obesity has the potential to be an early factor in the emergence of various chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular, metabolic and respiratory disorders. This study aims to determine the relationship between obesity and blood pressure, random blood sugar and peak expiratory flow in obese residents in the city of Palembang. This study used a quantitative type, analytical survey design through a cross-sectional approach, conducted on June 22 and 29, 2025 in the RW 05 area with a population of 68 respondents using total sampling according to the inclusion criteria. Data analysis used bivariate with the Kendall tau-b test. Most respondents had class II obesity (51.5%), blood pressure was grade II hypertension (42.6%), random blood sugar was diabetes category (57.4%) and normal peak expiratory flow (51.5%). Bivariate results using Kendall's tau-b showed a relationship between obesity and blood pressure (p=0.014), obesity and random blood sugar (p=0.019), and obesity and peak expiratory flow (p=0.0007). There was a relationship between obesity and blood pressure, random blood sugar, and peak expiratory flow. Respondents were advised to routinely monitor blood pressure, blood sugar, and BMI through diet, exercise, and a healthy lifestyle. Future researchers are advised to conduct interventions for obesity.
