Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a medical condition characterized by progressive, irreversible kidney damage, leading to decreased kidney function, accumulation of protein metabolic waste, and electrolyte imbalances that can lead to kidney failure. The increasing incidence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) has prompted the use of renal replacement therapies, such as hemodialysis. Objective: This study aims to explore more in-depth information regarding the experiences of chronic kidney failure patients undergoing hemodialysis at the Siti Khadijah Islamic Hospital, Palembang. This study aims to explore more in-depth information regarding the experiences of chronic kidney failure patients undergoing hemodialysis at the Siti Khadijah Islamic Hospital, Palembang. This study used a qualitative research design with a phenomenological approach. Five participants were recruited based on participant criteria using purposive sampling. The analysis used was Colaizzi analysis. This study yielded six themes: initial reactions to hemodialysis therapy, complaints experienced by patients during their first hemodialysis session, obstacles encountered during hemodialysis, efforts made to overcome obstacles, impact on patients, and support received. Participants are advised to be more compliant with the hemodialysis schedule, share their feelings with family or friends and maintain diet and fluid balance.
