Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the reading ability of first-grade students of SD Xaverius 4 Palembang. In this study, the researcher used a qualitative method, and the subjects in this study used 26 class 1A students. Based on the results and discussions as well as data collection techniques in data analysis that have been carried out by the researcher in his research on the Analysis of the reading ability of first-grade students of SD Xaverius 4 Palembang. The researcher concluded that the reading ability obtained information from 26 class IA students who were able to read was 65% or 17 students while the remaining 34% or 9 students were not yet correct in reading, or were still under guidance. All students were very good although there were still some who were not quite right in reading ability, such as in reading letters, words, and sentences. To read syllables, all students were able. So students who were still not quite right in reading still needed guidance in their reading ability. Keywords: Early reading, Reading Letters, Reading Syllables, ReadingWords, Reading Sentences.
