Abstract
Background: Triglyceride testing is one of the key parameters in evaluating the blood lipid profile. The accuracy of this test is highly influenced by pre-analytical processes, including the timing of serum separation from blood cells after centrifugation. Delayed serum separation may cause biochemical changes due to ongoing cellular activity, which can potentially affect triglyceride stability. Therefore, it is important to determine whether delaying serum separation up to 85 minutes after centrifugation leads to significant differences in triglyceride levels. Objective: This study aims to analyze the difference in triglyceride levels between serum separated immediately and 85 minutes after centrifugation. Method: This research used an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional approach. The subjects were 38 students from the Medical Laboratory Technology undergraduate program (DIV). Data analysis was performed using the Paired T-Test to determine whether a significant difference existed. Results: The results of this study showed that the mean triglyceride level in serum separated immediately after centrifugation was 75.2647 mg/dL, while the mean triglyceride level in serum separated 85 minutes after centrifugation was 68.3745 mg/dL. Conclusion: There was no significant difference in the results between serum separated immediately and 85 minutes after centrifugation, with a p-value of 0.244 (p < 0.05).
