Abstract

Background: Clinical laboratories are health laboratories that conduct examinations on clinical samples regarding health conditions, consisting of three stages: pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical. Creatinine is an important parameter in the evaluation of kidney function and is often used in clinical chemistry tests. The results of creatinine tests are greatly influenced by the pre-analytical stages, one of which is the blood standing time before centrifugation. The use of SST-type tubes with a clot activator can accelerate the blood clotting process. Objective: To determine the creatinine levels in blood that has been centrifuged for 15 minutes and 30 minutes after sample collection. Method: This research is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional analytical observational design. A total of 38 students who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria became the subjects of the study. Venous blood samples of ± 3 mL were collected in serum separator vacutainer tubes, then allowed to stand for 15 minutes and 30 minutes before being centrifuged. The creatinine test was performed using the Bio System BA 200 device and analyzed with the Wilcoxon test. Results: The average creatinine level in blood samples centrifuged 15 minutes after collection was 0.78 mg/dL, while in blood samples centrifuged 30 minutes after collection it was 0.79 mg/dL. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test yielded a p-value of 0.706 (p > 0.05). Conclusion: There is no difference in creatinine levels in blood samples centrifuged for 15 minutes and 30 minutes after sample collection. Suggestion: Further research can use the Jaffe method with alternative tubes such as plain. Keywords: Creatinine, centrifuged 15 minutes and 30 minutes after sample collection
