Abstract
Writing is one of the activities needed when we are in school. Writing is the activity of pouring ideas into a sentence and can be used as a message that can be understood by readers. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the difficulties of vocational school students in writing exposition text. The title of this research is Vocational High School Students' Difficulty in Writing Exposition Text. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. The population of this study was 11th grade students of Vocational High School in Methodist 2 Palembang, with the total number of 85 students. Meanwhile, the samples were 30 students taken from each of the three classes using simple random sampling techniques. Students’ writing and interviews were used to collect data. Data were analysed by the Miles model, which consists of data reduction, display and conclusion steps. From the results of the data that have been taken, there are many students whose scores are below 80, which mean there are still many students who have difficulty writing. By conducting this research, it is hoped that it will help teachers in providing appropriate material and teaching technique related to exposition texts, so that they can help students in solving difficulties in writing exposition texts.
