Abstract

Background: Giving the wrong medication risks threatening patient safety and can even result in patient death. The incidence of medication errors (ME) still occurs in several hospitals. Therefore, it is important to prevent medication errors by increasing the knowledge and attitude of nurses towards the prevention of medication errors. Objective: To analyze the relationship between knowledge and attitude of nurses towards efforts to prevent medication errors in the Inpatient Room. Methods: This study uses quantitative methods with survey design and cross-sectional approach. The sample amounted to 54 respondents. The data collection process was carried out by observing respondents and filling out questionnaires for respondents. Data analysis included univariate analysis for the feasibility of frequency distribution of respondent characteristics and bivariate analysis with the Kendall Tau-b correlation test to measure the relationship between knowledge variables, nurse attitudes, and medication error prevention. Results: There was no relationship between nurses' knowledge and the prevention of medication errors (p=0.545) and (t=0.083) did not have a significant relationship in the prevention of medication errors and there was no relationship between nurses' attitudes and the prevention of medication errors (p=1,000) and (t=0.000) did not have a significant relationship in the prevention of medication errors. Suggestion: Nurses should increase their efforts to prevent medication errors, identify the types of medication errors and the factors that affect them.
