Abstract
Hypertension is high blood pressure, namely systolic pressure above 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure above 90 mmHg. High blood pressure can cause narrowing of the arteries. Hypertension can cause serious complications such as coronary heart disease, stroke, heart and kidney failure, and damage to blood vessels in the retina. Prevention of complications can be influenced by self-efficacy and anxiety levels in making efforts to prevent hypertension complications. Objective: To determine the relationship between self-efficacy and anxiety levels with the prevention of hypertension complications in the community in the work area of the Community Health Center in Palembang City. Methods: Using a correlation design with a cross sectional approach, the sample size was 64 respondents with a total sampling technique and data collection tools using self-efficacy questionnaires, anxiety levels and prevention of hypertension complications. Data analysis used the Kendall-tau test. Results: Most of the respondents were in late adulthood, female, secondary education level, had suffered from hypertension for a short duration (1-5 years), high self-efficacy, low anxiety level, good prevention of hypertension complications. Data analysis showed that there was a relationship between self-efficacy and preventing hypertension complications (p=0.001) and there was no relationship between anxiety levels and preventing hypertension complications (p=0.851). Conclusion: The higher the self-efficacy, the better the prevention of complications and the lower the level of anxiety, the better the prevention of complications. Suggestion: Health workers can improve the quality of education and services to increase positive behavior towards preventing hypertension complications. Key Words: Hypertension, Anxiety, Self-efficacy.
