Abstract
Background: Hypertension is a condition where systolic blood pressure is ≥ 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure is ≥ 90 mmHg. Hypertension can cause organ damage and death if not controlled properly. So it needs to be controlled with pharmacological and non-pharmacological management such as modifying lifestyle. Lifestyle changes are carried out with self-care management to prevent complications. Suffering from hypertension for a long time and lack of knowledge can affect the success of self-care. So increasing knowledge is needed so that people know how to prevent hypertension complications and have good self-care. Objective: Researchers want to analyze the relationship between knowledge of complications and self-care and length of time suffering from hypertension with hypertension self-care behavior Method: This research uses quantitative methods, descriptive correlation design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 55 people. The data collection process was carried out door to door in the Padang Health Center Work Area on Tuesday. The measuring tool uses a questionnaire on knowledge of complications, knowledge of self-care and a questionnaire on self-care behavior designed by researchers. Data were analyzed using the Kendall's tau-b test with a significance value of 5%. Results: There is no relationship between knowledge of hypertension complications and hypertension self-care behavior (p = 0.172) and (τ = 0.187). There is a relationship between knowledge of hypertension self-care and hypertension self-care behavior (p = 0.009) and (τ = 0.327), There is no significant relationship between the duration of suffering from hypertension and hypertension self-care behavior (p=0.767) and (τ=-0.038) Suggestion: Nurses increase innovation in an effort to increase knowledge and self-care for hypertension sufferers. Keywords: Hypertension, Complications, Knowledge, Self-care.
